Crane Load Moment Indicator
About Crane Load Moment Indicator
The crane load moment indicator is a safety device that measures and monitors the weight and angle of a crane's boom. It calculates the load moment on the crane based on the boom angle, length, and weight othe load, providing real-time data and alerts to the crane operator when the crane approaches its load limits. A Crane Load Moment Indicator (LMI) is a safety device installed on cranes to help prevent accidents caused by overloading or tipping.
🔹 How it Works:
-
It continuously monitors the load weight being lifted.
-
It also measures the boom length, boom angle, and radius (distance from the crane’s center of rotation to the load).
-
The LMI compares this with the safe load chart of the crane.
🔹 Functions of an LMI:
-
Alerts the operator with visual and audio alarms when the crane approaches unsafe conditions.
-
Displays real-time load, angle, and capacity usage.
-
Helps maintain crane stability and prevents structural damage.
-
Enhances safety for workers, crane, and site operations.
🔹 Components of LMI:
-
Display Unit (Operator’s Cab) – shows load, angle, radius, % of rated capacity.
-
Sensors – load cells, angle sensors, and length sensors.
-
Alarms & Cutoff Systems – provide warnings and can stop unsafe crane functions.
