A Load Moment Indicator (LMI) is a crucial safety device used on cranes to prevent accidents caused by overloading or unsafe lifting conditions. It continuously monitors the load of the crane to ensure operations remain within safe working limits.

How It Works

• The LMI measures the crane’s lifting parameters and calculates the actual load moment (the force created by the load and its distance from the crane’s center).

• If the load approaches or exceeds the safe limit, the LMI alerts the operator through visual and audible alarms, and in many systems, it can even lock unsafe movements.
